In questi ultimi vent’anni le religiose hanno conosciuto in modo particolare sulle nostre strade il volto e gli orrori causati dalla tratta di esseri umani, specie di donne and less for the use of humiliating and degrading sexual exploitation of their bodies. Most immigrants are young, used as a source of pleasure and profit. Many of our religious communities, faithful to their founding charism, have welcomed in recent years, thousands of these women who rebel against this exploitation, offering them protection, respect and opportunity to rebuild their lives and their futures destroyed.
How much effort and dedication, love and selflessness, service and solidarity have been offered to so many women victims of trafficking and exploitation without any self-interest and financial support from institutions, trusting only the providence. And how many lives saved and give back to their families and to society! How hard and how long it takes to heal the wounds caused by violence and human selfishness to reconstruct the personality of a young female victim of deception and abuse!
On behalf of all these religious in various parts of Italy each day with courage and dedication, careless of the risks and stress, without seeking publicity, and gain consensus, but simply led to true love and respect the person, bent over due to injury these women from sexual exploitation. Help them to heal and discover the true face of love, giving them the will to live, grow and love.
I want to end my discussion by quoting a very wise and that current "makes more noise than a tree falling that a growing forest." This is more relevant than ever in our media environment. Despite the big fuss is being done these days for a tree that fell and that has shocked and confused many people, religious we continue to work quietly but with determination to protect the dignity and sacredness of every person, especially of women and girls, victims of a society of consumption and appearance, lack of morality and lack of values.
Our service of women for other women - as well as continue to be a strong denunciation not only in words but through the concrete proof of our life - wants to be an appropriate response to so many young people, victims of our models in different ways of life, so they can grow and recover the size and the joy of returning to be protagonists of their future. Their true success and their future can not be based on money, career or on the privileges of the powerful, but on their human capacities, their inner beauty and their sense of responsibility.
And we women religious who work in this ministry we want to continue to be the trees that grow quietly to deliver oxygen to eliminate pollution air and remind everyone - society and the Church, politicians and ordinary people, young and old, men and women - that honesty, respect for the dignity and identity of each person is the largest capital on which a civilized country should be able to invest and store for us today and for future generations. One day, our work will be judged not only by the One who created us and whom we are accountable, but also we will be judged by the same story.
